what does the bible say?
As believers, coming to know God starts at the moment we receive salvation when we are made spiritually alive in Christ (Colossians 2:13). The pursuit of getting to know Christ on a deeper level is a response to His love for us (Colossians 3:17). With our newfound relationship with Christ, we have the ability to abide in Him, which helps us understand Him on a deeper level as we strengthen relational intimacy (Matthew 12:33). The invitation to know Jesus is open (Luke 11:9-10; Hebrews 4:16) and we are encouraged to love Him with our whole beings (Mark 12:30). Along with studying the Bible to learn more about who God is, one of the key ways we get to know God better is by obeying Him (John 15:4, 14, 16-17). As believers, we are not alone in our spiritual journey. We have the Helper, the Holy Spirit living inside of us (John 16:13) and we are also adopted into God’s family (Romans 8:15-17). We can learn more about God’s nature through studying and living out the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Ultimately, although we won’t come to know God in His fullness during this lifetime (1 Corinthians 13:12), we can know Him and live a life that pleases Him by earnestly seeking Him now (Hebrews 11:6).
