what does the bible say?
Revelation 13 describes two beasts that appear during the last period of history. The first comes from the sea, empowered by the dragon (Satan), and leads a coalition that wages war against God’s people (Revelation 13:1–8). This figure is known as the Antichrist. The second beast, called the False Prophet, rises from the earth and performs deceptive signs to direct the world’s worship toward the first beast (Revelation 13:11–13; 16:13; 19:20). He will instruct people to make an image of the first beast and will give it breath so it appears alive, speaking and enforcing worship under threat of death (Revelation 13:14–15).
This image will also be linked to economic control, as only those who receive the beast’s mark will be able to buy or sell anything (Revelation 13:16–17). While interpreters disagree about whether the image will stand in the Jewish temple or elsewhere, the passage clearly shows that it will require universal allegiance. Those who worship the beast and its image will face God’s wrath, while those who refuse may die but will reign with Christ (Revelation 14:9–11; 20:4). In the end, the beast and the False Prophet will be thrown into the lake of fire, while Christ’s kingdom will last forever (Revelation 19:20; 20:10; 21:1–5).
