what does the bible say?
Although the Bible does not specifically address hentai or pornography, it does have much to say about lust and sin. Hentai is a worldly form of sexually explicit entertainment that feeds our fleshly desires (1 John 2:16) and is therefore hurtful to us (1 Corinthians 6:12). Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 5:28 that lusting after someone in our heart is considered just as sinful as committing adultery. In 1 Corinthians 6:18, we are instructed to “flee” sexual morality. If we are God’s children, we should live in alignment with our new identity, taking into account our witness to others (Matthew 5:16).
If we indulge in sinful practices like hentai and then call others out on their sin, we are being hypocritical. Using hentai is something we can “put to death” (Colossians 3:5) by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9-11) as He sets Himself against our fleshly desires and leads us into righteousness (Galatians 5:16–18).1 As God’s adopted children, we should live “set apart” from this world, with involves rejecting our former sins (like lust) (1 Peter 1:14-16). Instead of watching hentai and letting it corrupt our minds, we should fill our mind with godly thoughts as described in Philippians 4:8.
