God is in control, and you can trust Him. With the knowledge of God’s character— His goodness, lovingkindness, trustworthiness , mercy , faithfulness, compassion , holiness , etc.— we can trust in Him and take comfort in the truth that He is always in complete control.
The Bible states unequivocally that God is in control of all things in the universe (Job 38-39, Isaiah 45:5-7). The will of God happens exactly as He purposes: “Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me. Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish” (Isaiah 46:9-10). The prophet Isaiah wrote, “The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath: ‘ It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided’” (Isaiah 14:24). God has communicated the truth and His will through the Bible, which includes prophecies and promises. God not only makes these prophecies and promises, but He also ensures they all come to pass. The apostle Paul summed up the sovereignty of God with this: “Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!” (Romans 11:33). As believers in God, we can have peace, security, and confidence that God is in control and that all things will work together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
Along with understanding that God is all-powerful and in complete control, we must also hold onto His character. God is good, kind, loving, merciful, faithful, compassionate, holy and trustworthy. Armed with this truth, we can work through anything and walk through difficult, disappointing, and/or unexplainable times in life . James wrote, “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing” (James 1:2-4). Everything that happens in our lives has a divine purpose, even when we are unable to see it . David wrote, “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you” (Psalm 37:5). Another verse to hold onto as we trust in God’s control is Proverbs 3:5- 6): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” These Scriptures inform our responsibility as believers in God. God is trustworthy and in complete control. We can take comfort in this as we live to glorify His name and make Him known to all the world.
