Is God omnificent? What does it mean to be omnificent?

Omnificent is defined as being "unlimited in creative power." God created the entire universe and all that exists within it, so He is certainly omnificent. The Bible starts by describing God as Creator: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light" (Genesis 1:1–3, emphasis added).

In the New Testament, God is affirmed as the Creator of all by the apostle Paul and Jesus is described as being over all creation: "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together" (Colossians 1:15–17; see also John 1:3, Hebrews 11:3). God is not only the Creator of all; He is also the sustainer of all.

God's omnificence goes hand-in-hand with His omnipotence, meaning He is all powerful, and His omniscience, meaning He is all knowing. The prophet Jeremiah explains: "It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens" (Jeremiah 10:12). This verse shows us that God was able to create without limitation (omnificence) because of His power (omnipotence) and wisdom (omniscience). Paul says that God's "invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made" (Romans 1:20). One of the primary ways we see the attributes of God is through His creation. His creative power stirs our own faith, because through it, we know that He is able to do all things: "Ah, LORD GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you" (Jeremiah 32:17). The omnificent God who created the universe is the same God who cares for each one of us (Psalm 8:3–4; Ephesians 1:4).
