Is Jesus the Son of God? How could Allah, being God, have a son?

Muslims believe that Christians worship more than one God because they see Jesus as being a second God. Yet Jesus Himself taught there is only one God. In response to a religious teacher about the greatest commandment, Jesus began His answer by stating, "The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:29-30).

Then who was Jesus? The Qur'an teaches He was a prophet. Sura 5:75 says, "Christ, the son of Mary, was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how God makes His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!"

The Qur'an also calls Jesus a servant of God: "And behold! God will say: 'Oh Jesus, the son of Mary! Did you say unto men, worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of God?' He will say: 'Glory to Thee! Never could I say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would indeed have known it. You know what is in my heart, though I know not what is in Yours. For You know in full all that is hidden. Never did I say to them anything except what You commanded me to say: 'Worship God, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them while I lived among them. When You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a witness to all things'" (Sura 5:116-117).

Yet Jesus taught in the Injils (Gospels) that He was more than a prophet and servant of God. He claimed to be one with God (John 10:30). John 1:1 calls Jesus "the Word" and says He was in the beginning with God, making Him divine. John 3:16 teaches, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son [Isa, Jesus], that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." Jesus was much more than a servant; He was God in human form. John 1:14 clearly teaches, "The Word [referring to Jesus] became flesh and dwelt among us."

It is clear that the Bible includes much additional information about Jesus not given in the Qur'an. He is more than a prophet and servant; He is also God's Son, the second Person of the Triune Godhead. As the Son of God, He is able to provide a way to know God and spend eternity in heaven with Him. In fact, Jesus claims to be the only way: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6; also Acts 4:12). By faith, any person can believe in Jesus as the Son of God and have eternal life. As Ephesians 2:8-9 teaches, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." The Son of God, Jesus, alone is able to provide a way to eternity with God. This way is through faith in Him, something any person can begin right now by believing in Him.
