What is a Christian testimony?

A Christian testimony usually refers to the account of how a person encountered the God of the Bible, understood sin and salvation, and made a decision to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

The word "testimony" is used as it is in a court of law. That is, the true account of a person's experience or observation.

Frequently, a person who becomes a Christian will be able to see or recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives well before they were initially aware of it. Universally, a Christian testimony includes the good news, or gospel, of Jesus Christ—explaining how Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to die sinless and rise from the dead in power over death. Christian testimony also always points to the Bible as the authoritative Word of God.

Though a Christian testimony includes the account of a person's salvation experience, it should not end there. God continues work in every person's life and that ongoing relationship should continue to elicit story, or testimony.
