Is there such a thing as Christian dream interpretation? Are dreams from God?
In the Bible God often used dreams and visions to communicate with His people. The dreams were meant for specific purposes. Sometimes to avert danger, sometimes to identify God's messenger, and always to further God's will. This doesn't mean that God still gives Christians dreams on a regular basis.
In Joel 2:28 God promises that "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions."
But God also allows people to have false dreams. In Deuteronomy 13:1-5 He explains to the Israelites that it's possible for someone to have a dream or vision that comes true. But if that dreamer then compels anyone to worship someone other than God, the dream was a test, and the dreamer should not be followed.
In Numbers 12:6-8, God explained to Miriam and Aaron the difference between His communication with His prophets and others versus His communication with His friends: "If there is a prophet among you, I the LORD make myself known to him in a vision; I speak with him in a dream. Not so with my servant Moses. He is faithful in all my house. With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"
As with Moses, Christ-followers are friends of God. In John 15:15 Jesus says, "No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you." His communication with us is more direct than dreams, and primarily comes through His word, the Bible.
Does God still give dreams to people? Undoubtedly. What do they mean? We can't say. As an online ministry, perhaps half-way around the world, there's no way we could tell you what your dreams mean. We can only give you the advice the Bible gives us. If you "lack wisdom" as to what your dream means, ask God (James 1:5). And if anything in the dream tells you to abandon God or go against His word, reject the dream (Galatians 1:8).
