Is it possible for a Christian to be cursed?

Curses, spells, voodoo, witchcraft, hexes, and such have no power over Christians. Such evil is from Satan, who is a defeated foe. Christians belong to God and we can trust that He will care for us. In writing about testing the spirits, John says, "Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

The Bible also tells us that a curse without cause will have no effect (Proverbs 26:2). A flippant curse means nothing. No one can effectively curse someone whom God has blessed. We need not fear a curse, ones who attempt to curse us, nor the one from which the power of the curse would come because Christians belong to Jesus Christ, who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Spells are always described negatively in the Bible. In Deuteronomy 18:10–22, they are included with other acts that are detestable to the Lord. In fact, Micah 5:12 says that God will destroy those who cast spells. Christians are not to participate in spells, hexes, voodoo, or curses.

A Christian is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) and we are protected by the Holy Spirit. We can rest assured that curses and spells have no power over us. As mentioned above, 1 John 4:4 says, “the one who is in you [Christ] is greater than the one [Satan] who is in the world.” We do not need to be afraid.

When considering whether a Christian can be cursed, these verses are an encouragement to us:

"The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1).

"If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you" (Romans 8:11).

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36).
