The Mormon Church claims to be the restored and only true church of Christ, yet its origins, added scriptures, and doctrines directly contradict the Bible. Founded by Joseph Smith, Mormonism depends on secret revelations and extra-biblical texts, despite Scripture’s warning that God’s Word must not be added to or altered (Revelation 22:18–19; Matthew 5:18). The Bible affirms that there is only one God (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6, 8), while Mormonism teaches a plurality of gods, and that salvation is received solely by faith in Christ’s finished work—not by human effort (Acts 16:30–31; John 6:28–29). Scripture also warns that even an angel proclaiming a different gospel is to be rejected (Galatians 1:6–9), directly challenging the Book of Mormon’s origin story. Jesus Himself promised that His church would never be overcome and has existed since its founding through the apostles (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 3:21). When measured against Scripture, Mormonism proclaims a different god and a different gospel, and therefore cannot be the true church of Jesus Christ.
The Book of Mormon is not the only book used by the Latter-Day Saints; they hold teachings of their prophets and apostles as more important than the "restored gospel." The Doctrines and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price are the books which guide the daily life of the Mormon. These teachings often contradict themselves and the Book of Mormon itself.
Joseph Smith even rewrote the Bible to suit his own beliefs making 2,427 changes or additions; however, the Mormons don't talk about or use his translation. He even inserted himself in the book of Genesis chapter 50: "And that seer will I bless, and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded; for this promise I give unto you, for I will remember you from generation to generation; and his name shall be called Joseph, and it shall be like unto you, for the thing which the Lord shall bring forth by His hand shall bring my people unto salvation."
The true church established by Jesus does not follow any human leader as do the cult religions. As such, Mormonism does not pass the truth test because it has rewritten Scripture to fit Smith's beliefs, and to fit the teachings of their own prophets. We should always compare the Bible with the teachings of cults and religions in order to determine validity.
Joseph Smith reveals a pattern of reshaping Scripture rather than submitting to it. Therefore his movement was not the true church, even though it claims to be. In contrast, the true church established by Jesus Christ is built on God’s unchanging Word, not on evolving revelations or human authority. When a movement must continually revise Scripture to validate its claims, it exposes that it is not restoring Christ’s church—but replacing it with something entirely different.
